OBRA Habilitation Training

Through our Habilitation training program, adults residing in area nursing homes are provided opportunities to develop and preserve skills to increase their independence. These skills may include basic life skills, mobility, socialization and accessing integrated community activities.

Funding
These services are funded through Ombudsman Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) administered through the State of Indiana.

Success Story: Born in 1924, AC lived with her parents until she was 8 years old. She was then institutionalized in state operated facilities until 1970 when she moved to a convalescent center. In 1974 she moved to a nursing facility in Jay County to be closer to her brother and his family. In 1995 she joined JRDS' OBRA Habilitation program. While she is reported to have a limited vocabulary, AC has learned to let her staff know her wishes! She has a ready smile for everyone she comes in contact with. She enjoys going out for her favorite food—Chili! AC and her staff have visited parks, her family, and many places in the community during her community outings. At one point she was even volunteering at a local day care! The OBRA Habilitation program allows AC the opportunity to maintain a good quality of life!
