Mission Statement

JRDS is dedicated to providing quality services which empower persons with special needs to pursue their individual goals in a variety of community settings.

Life Skills Program

Through our Life Skills Program, individuals learn skills to help them be more independent in their homes and in the community. These services are provided at our centers in Winchester and Portland and in the surrounding area. Through these services, an individual may learn to read and write, cook a well balanced meal, increase math and computer skills, etc.

Funding
Services in this program area are funded through the Community Habilitation and Facility Habilitation services of the Medicaid Developmental Disability, Autism, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Support Service Waivers, and through state funds.

Success story: When she started to work at JRDS, one client was very shy. She would not speak with anyone in the community or ask questions of any one she encountered outside of her work area. Through her volunteering efforts in the Life Skills Program, however, she has gained the social skills and confidence to speak for herself while in the community. While at her volunteering site, she will now initiate conversations with members of the community to ask what tasks they have for her to do.
