Mission Statement

JRDS is dedicated to providing quality services which empower persons with special needs to pursue their individual goals in a variety of community settings.

Basic Life Skills (BLS)

Through our Basic Life Skills Program, adults with moderate to severe disabilities are provided training in life skills, fitness, communication, prevocational skills and community integration. Adults in this program learn skills to strengthen and support their independence and socialization skills. This training occurs both one on one with a trained Direct Support Professional and in groups of 4-8 individuals.

Funding
Services in this program area are funded through the Community Habilitation and Facility Habilitation services of the Medicaid Developmental Disability, Autism, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Support Service Waivers and through state funds.

Success Story: When LH began receiving services through the JRDS Basic Life Skills program, he had difficulties expressing himself. He would use written notes to assist in telling staff something he wanted them to know. However, at one point he had a "growth spurt." He no longer wanted to rely on notes and while he would require assistance in saying words, he began to verbally express himself to his staff! He continued to progress and today he makes his own plans, has his medical provider call him directly about his appointments, and makes daily decisions on his own!
