Services
Jay-Randolph Developmental Services (JRDS) is a private non-profit community social service agency serving people with special needs. JRDS services are person-centered, individualized and provided according to the needs and preferences of the person served. The following examples are only a partial list for illustration purposes and are not intended to be all-inclusive.

Community Based Programs
Community Employment prepares adults with disabilities for community jobs as staff:
- counsel and assess each client to determine where he/she wants to work
- evaluate clients at a temporary work-site to determine the skills and supports needed
- provide job coaching at the work site to enhance skill training and support
- regularly follow-up to ensure on-the-job success
- conduct "job club," a monthly support and discussion group
- use Benefits Information Network (BIN) to help job seekers assess the impact of earning a paycheck
OBRA Habilitation Training offers eligible nursing home residents activities to improve life skills, mobility, socialization, choice making and community integration by:
- making/maintaining relationships with friends & family
- monitoring social and dining skills in local restaurants
Residential Based Services
Residential Group Living provide supervised settings where adults with disabilities learn the skills of independence as staff:
- provide and maintain a safe and nurturing home environment
- teach self-care, health maintenance and providing healthcare coordination
- teach maintenance of a household; money management, planning, purchasing and cooking meals, cleaning, and yard care
- teach independence in accessing the community for both business and leisure opportunities
- teach and enrich communication and relationship skills
- meet the needs of the individual wherever and with whatever is required for support and assistance
Supported Living Waiver Services enable adults with disabilities to live as independently as possible while providing support as needed. These services are offered in the form of waiver home living, supports for individuals living on their own or with family, and respite services.
- assist and empower individuals to develop independence in daily living skills including personal and home care skills
- provide assistance with healthcare coordination
- provide training in community integration
- assist with money management, planning, cooking, cleaning and yard care
Center Based Services
Basic Life Skills provides individuals with goal-centered experiences to develop/increase/maintain their functional skills and enhance their participation in the community. Training and supports are designed for persons to increase self-esteem and interdependence, decrease dependence on paid supports, enhance self-sufficiency, choice and control of their lives, and increase participation in the community.
Services may include but are not limited to:
- Facilitation and support of community integration
- Prevocational work skills development
- Behavioral Management training
- Functional life skills training
- Case Coordination
- Work Training
- Medication Administration
- Transportation and community mobility
- Individual and group social skills development
- Referral services as individual needs/choices dictate
Life Skills promotes independence for adults with disabilities and develops natural supports in the community as staff:
- train on the use of area entertainment, education, transportation and cultural options
- assist with chosen volunteer opportunities
- teach budgeting and purchasing skills, functional reading and basic math skills
- develop and monitor nutrition, physical fitness, safety and hygiene
- facilitate interrelationships with peers, friends, neighbors and family through training
Work Services provides vocational skills training to adults with disabilities
Contract Work Services provides contracted manufacturing, assembly and packaging for industries in East Central Indiana and Ohio. We offer:
- nearly 30 years of experience working for industries in the surrounding area
- cost effective, reliable, quality minded workforce of 60+ individuals with disabilities
- 18,000 square feet of industrial space to complete work
- Long-term 100% quality service and 100% on-time delivery
Community Aluminum Beverage Can Recycling Service At both the Portland and Winchester centers, JRDS contracts with Jay County Beverages, Inc. to operate aluminum beverage can recycling for the communities. You may drop off your aluminum beverage cans at either center Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM (Closed holidays). Services are also available the first Saturday of each month in Portland and the second Saturday of each month in Winchester from 8 AM to 12 PM. You can donate your cans to JRDS or receive payment for them. See the "Latest News" on the Home page to obtain the current price per pound.
