Mission Statement

JRDS is dedicated to providing quality services which empower persons with special needs to pursue their individual goals in a variety of community settings.

The Portland facility expansion and renovation of the Day Services training project which is being funded, in part, by a $440,000 grant award from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs is moving along nicely. The expansion will provide an additional 2,740 square feet to the current work services, life skills and basic life skills training areas. This expansion will include classrooms, an accessible training kitchen, a private changing area and renovated restrooms, and a warming kitchen. All of these elements together will offer JRDS room to more adequately provide individualized service training for consumers. Classrooms that will allow consumers to focus on the tasks at hand without disruptions from others will have a positive impact on their learning. An accessible training kitchen will provide all consumers with the opportunity to participate in activities designed to increase their independence. Increased privacy and adequate clean-up facilities will bring a peace of mind to consumers requiring toileting assistance. And, a warming kitchen will provide meals created with dietary oversight. The quality of care for persons with special needs that is offered through day programming at JRDS will be positively impacted with these changes in the facility. Being able to provide such services in the communities where these individuals live further enhances the quality of their lives. Successful completion of this project will enhance the training services offered at JRDS for many years to come.
